Ice Bath

Alex Ziperovich

I FELL INTO A WRITHING, ICE BATH

I’LL DROWN IN THE ICY THRASH, SPLASHING AND CLAPPING CRACKING LIKE GLASS

I’LL BREAK MY KNEES, THROW THEM IN THE ICY TRASH

BREAK MY SPINE, CRUSH MY VERTEBRAE

LET MY SPINE TWIST A CERTAIN WAY

TURN IT TO STONE AND THEN BREAK IT THE FUCK AWAY

LET MY LUNGS BREATHE A LAST BREATH AND TOSS

THEM TO THE CURB LIKE A CIGARETTE, LET THEM FREEZE ON THE GROUND WITH BLUE SPARKLING FROST, HARDLY SOFT, THE BITTER MESS IN THE BITTERNESS IN THE WINTER HELL

LET MY EYES GET SMASHED ON THE CONCRETE

WITH MY CORNEAS EVENLY SPLIT, EVENLY SPILT DOWN THE STREETS, I EVENLY SAW FILTH ALL THESE PIECES OF MEAT – ON TOP OF WHAT GOOD MEN BUILT WITH THEIR GOLD AND GUILT AND LIQOUR AND TEETH

LET MY FROZEN HEART FALL TO THE CONCRETE

LET THE CHILDREN KICK IT AROUND LIKE A BALL IN THE STREET

TIL THERE ARE FROZEN SHARDS OF MY HEART ON EVERY SINGLE child’s feet

LET THE ICE BATH SHATTER MY TORSO LET IT GO LET IT FLY LET IT GO TURN TO DUST AND SNOW HORRIBLY NORMAL, DEFORMED WITH A TINY, TINY, TINY POOR SOUL

LET IT FLY INTO THE GUST AND LET IT DIE AND WHEN THE LAST WORD STEAMS OUT OF MY THROAT, I WONT SAY GOODBYE,  THIS FUCKING LIE WAVING AT ME FROM AFAR KNOWING IT WILL BE THE LAST TIME OUR HEARTS MEET, THE DECEIT OF THE GOODBYE LEAVING ME SCARRED AND I DON’T KNOW WHY.

Say Something
